Language Department
The World
Language Department of Holy Cross High School prepares all students to
actively and effectively participate in the global community of the 21st
century. The Department embraces the belief that all students who speak
one language can successfully learn another. The program supports a
continuous sequence of language learning, which provides opportunities
to use language through meaningful, interactive experiences, enriched by
authentic content.
After completing course work in the World Language department at
Holy Cross High School, all students will be able to:
~Demonstrate
an understanding of the interrelationship between language and culture
for at least one world language in addition to English
~Speak,
write, and read in one language other than English
~Listen
and understand in one language other than English
As we
move to an Enhanced Learning Environment in September 2007, all students
will be encouraged to explore two languages. Latin will be offered as a
preparation for SAT as well as an appreciation for the classics. The
World Language Department fosters a greater understanding of and
appreciation for cultures by exploring themes and issues across content
areas and making connections to the multicultural world of the 21st
century. |
