Religion
Department
The Religion Department of Holy Cross High School dedicates itself
to the ongoing spiritual, moral, and intellectual Advancement of our
students. After completing four years of Religion at
Holy Cross High School, all students will:
~Learn the Faith, Morals, and Social Teachings of the
Catholic Church as rooted and revealed in the Gospel
~Acquire a better understanding of Catholic identity by
studying the Church’s Tradition, Scripture, and rituals
~Grow in their understanding of the Church as the People of God
~Be invited to share in a rich experience of prayer and worship
~Explore the dimensions of Catholic vocations
~Gain a basic understanding of other religious traditions
During their journey here at Holy Cross, students will be
challenged to open their hearts and minds to the reality of God’s love in their
lives and to live this love authentically.
Community Service
Holy Cross High
School requires Community Service as a part of the curriculum. Holy Cross
believes it is important that students see their faith as a lived experience and
see service as an integral part of their Christian lifestyle. As part of our
Holy Cross Growth Objectives set by Middle States Evaluations, in the upcoming
years Holy Cross students will be challenged to improve their knowledge of the
scope of social justice issues and their role in them as young men and women of
faith. Standards for growth will be established by following the below
guidelines:
~100% of Sophomores
will be required to pass a written assessment in religion class that addresses
social justice issues
~30% of juniors and
seniors will be required to participate in community service projects for social
justice
In addition,
guidelines will be followed to measure changes in attitude of juniors and
seniors involved in working for social justice.
This year, among
other Holy Cross social justice projects, a group of Holy Cross students and
faculty spent a week in Mississippi working to help victims of Katrina.
